As my nearest city would be Waterford City, I would consider my 22 years of experience with restaurants in Waterford City enough to qualify me to recommend you my top 5 Waterford restaurants:
This place is just down from the Apple Market in the city centre and is the best place for burgers or pizza in Waterford, in my opinion. It is an American/Italian style restaurant and if you’re willing to spend a little more on a burger, you will not be disappointed. You can also tell that the pizzas are made with all fresh ingredients and are something similar of what you would find in Italy (and the pizza in Italy is to die for so that’s a major compliment). The staff are really friendly and I’ve never had an experience where my food was slow to be served despite the restaurant being packed with people.
Hook and Ladder
Located on the Tramore Road, this restaurant is a little bit far outside the city centre if you don’t have a car but there are city buses you can get if you’re really hoping to try this place out. I’ve been here a few times and every time I’m not disappointed. The decor in here is so cool and you can actually buy some of the display pieces. When you go in, it can sometimes be tricky to find a seat but the food is well worth it! I recommend this place for lunch although it can get really busy so I usually go for breakfast before the crowds if I plan to go here! Their food is amazing and all fresh and homemade. The food is reasonably priced too but I wouldn’t call it cheap. They also do really nice scones and pastries!
EastEnders Tandoori Restaurant
This Indian restaurant is located on the Quay up towards the bridge. My friend’s family have gone here for years and I was always unsure of Indian food as I can’t handle spicy food. About four years ago they finally convinced me to go and I’ve never looked back. I’d even go as far to say that this is my favourite place to eat in Waterford. The service and staff are amazing, the food is so delicious and you get so much and the price is so cheap. As I’m a student, usually when I go to a restaurant I don’t get two courses but when I’m here, it’s such good value I always get a starter and a main for under €13/ £11.50/ $14.75(USD) if you go for the early bird menu. You can also come here for a takeaway but I honestly think you should go for the full experience. If you’re like me, there is also buffets they do for really good value when you can go try everything and find something you like! I personally get the Chicken Korma and I’ve yet to find somewhere that does it better!
This Italian restaurant is located on the High Street and is definitely somewhere you need to try if you’re after one of the best places to eat. The price is higher than average but they do deals such as their early bird menu which includes a two-course meal for €21/ £18.58/ $23.82(USD) which is good value for the quality of food that you get. It is almost as if you get transported to Italy when you go in and the food is just as good as authentic Italian food you find in Italy. The service is quick and the servers are always lovely to deal with!
Located just down from the Hook and Ladder, it’s not accessible by walking from the city centre so either drive or take the bus! Admittedly I’ve only been here once but that doesn’t mean I didn’t love it! When I went it was lunchtime and it was my first time there. I didn’t realise the portion sizes so I ordered a tomato soup and a toasted sandwich to go with it. We both could have just eaten the one meal honestly, that’s how much food actually came. We did pay a little more than what I would like to pay for soup and a sandwich but the amount of food we got, I really couldn’t complain. Also, the tomato soup was incredible too so I would recommend you get it when you go!
Honourable mentions: Rockin Joes, Kyoto, The Reg, Momo Restaurant and Dooley’s
